We just talked to our new birth mother! It was a very exciting and nerve racking conversation. She is very sweet, as we were told. She seems much more mature and sure of herself than our previous birth mother. Perhaps that is because she is a few years older.
She has just moved into her own apartment and is working full time. We talked about her job and she said some great things, like she doesn't like all of the work she has to do but she gets paid good money and that is what matters. That is a profound statement from someone so young.
We don't know all of the circumstances of her life, but she has earned about one third of her undergraduate degree. She talked about all of the research she did about adoption and all of the questions she asked. At that point we were able to ask her the one question we wanted to know (one that we never asked our last birth mother) and that was, "why are you placing this child?" She said it is because she has been trough this before and she knows how difficult it is. She says her 15 mos old, whom she has custody of , is a hand full and she just can't handle another one. Plus she really wants to go back to school and one day become a physical therapist. Those were good answers, we felt. It seems as if she is making sound decisions in a difficult situation.
Now, we just have to wait to see what her response is to the agency. If she wants to talk again then will continue in the process. She is due August 16 and is having a scheduled c-section, probably the week before. It will be nice to know when we have to be in Texas.
